Why So Big?

Ok so there's something I've noticed in the last few years that drives me INSANE! And now that I'm going to tell you about it, you're going to notice it (if you didn't already) all the time and you're gonna be SO pissed at me for pointing it out ;)

What is it you ask? Celebrities wearing shoes that are at least a size too big on the red carpet. Or blue carpet. Whatever. WHY??
Maybe it's because stylists usually put the outfits together and sometimes the celebs don't try them on until the last minute? Still, weird. Especially when they're wearing the same brands over and over again. Figure it out ladies.

 TOO BIG.

TOO BIG.

TOO BIG!

 TOO BIG.

Weird right? And it happens all the time. Thoughts??

Oh my GOD OH MY GOD that is my pet peeve too!! I DESPISE it when people wear shoes too big, especially sandals. i can't stand to see extra shoe sticking out from under a person's toes, or behind the heel. Or when people wear peep toes that are too big, or they have short toes, and you can see way too much sole and not enough to peeping through. I have rage blackouts when I see that shit.

i've definitely noticed this and i think it's because they are on their feet so long in heels and it gives room for their feet to swell a bit so they aren't so dreadfully uncomfortable after a couple hours. not to mention a lot of celebs that are in heels all day every day it seems.

just a guess!

I always notice this too! Doesn't it make it harder to walk??Ugh it drives me nuts when I see it!

I`ve noticed this before and to me its weird too. Well, maybe I can kinda understand the situation with some open toe shoes/sandals etc., because there is a possibility that your foot slips a lil bit further, but still, its weird.

That's something I have noticed quite some time ago, too !!!! I am sharing "life is reediculous'"
opinion. I think that they don't hurt that much....but what I don't understand : how come they don't lose them from time to time ??? How do they manage to walk in them ????

This is a HUGE pet peeve of mine! I gather it is so they don't hurt their feet being in heels for so long but I don't understand how they don't feel like they are walking in their mommy's heels like when they were little! How they keep their feet in them if there is no ankle strap!?!

I noticed it too and i know you got the pics of Brittany & Jennifer from my blog lol. I don't know why they do that, but maybe because the size smaller is just too small and they're feet slide forward in those idk...

Anja said...

I guess too big is better than too small. I agree with life is reediculous that maybe it's for swelling feet. But i guess they just have bad stylists. I mean come on, you should know the sizes of your clients, right???
Also I think in extreme high heels you might slide down a bit.
It is weird though, definitely!!!

I have noticed it before and it's not a nice sight.
I heard that this happens because they are only borrowing the shoes from the designer's and not buying them. So the designer's don't have all the sizes available (only samples) to give them, and that's why we see so many celebrities wearing shoes that are way bigger than their true size.

omg the second to last photo i saw a few days ago and thought the same thing. yes it is terrible as a stylist they should think to get the celebrities shoe size i mean they even have website for that stuff sheesh

I see this not only on celebs but on the street too! I guess it is understandable for celebs to have their stylist occasionally screw up sizes (we all know it sometimes depends on the brand and style)...but occasionally ONLY. Not every day and at every event like we've been seeing. Now the people who do this on the street.. Can anyone explain that? Why buy shoes if they don't fit??!

Eveline said...

When my brother got married I bought shoes in summer when my feet were a little swollen. When I putted the shoes on in winter with stockings i noticed that I actually bought my shoes a half size too big. I had to put little soles in them to fit right. But after standing all afternoon on the reception my feet hurt like hell! So I took out the little soles and the shoes fitted perfectly! It was just because my feet had swollen so much.

Sometimes i have this problem when I try on shoes bare feet in the store. When I wear them afterwards with stockings they look a little to big because i slide a bit more to the front. But when I take of my stockings they fit well :)

And the weird thing is that they Still grin and bear it, like nobody'll notice. Very strange...

I've noticed this as well. But here's my question in return- How the hell do the keep them on their feet and not walk out of the shoes? If I wear shoes that are too big I feel like the flop off the back when I walk unless they are strappy sandals which can be tightened on. Do celebs know some trick we don't?

This post was funny! I guess I never realized this, but leave it to the shoe girl to catch this, haha.

yeah I've noticed this too-really annoying and has to be uncomfortable for them.

Alyssa said...

I CRINGE anytime I see celeb photos, and they show a close up of the shoe and there is that massive gap. It leaves me baffled.

Pearl Westwood said...

I always wondered if it was just because they got sent samples and they came in what ever size the sample was like clothes? We need to grill some celebs about this strange happeneing!

Judy said...

It's because jewllery and shoes (and dresses sometimes) are often 'borrowed' from the designer for red carpet events. The designer never crack open a new box of thousand dollar shoes just to lend them out to be used; they have a couple pairs that kick around and goes to celebrities when their stylist calls for it and if they don't have the lender shoes in the celebrity's size, then too bad.

Sharona R - שרונה ראובני said...

Maybe they do this on purpose, so the wearer doesn't chafe her ankle on the back of the shoe? We all know these shoes can hurt like hell.

i had the same thoughts as Sharona R

Denise said...

Yes, the shoes are all borrowed. I'd rather wear my own shoes even if they were Target, just to avoid this - nice outfit, but people pointing out the size of the shoes!

TheShoeGirl said...

Somethings up with blogger... I don't know what happened to all the comments that were left before :(

Sorry guys!

if you don't know, you should wear a half size bigger than you regular size just for comfort. I think that is what this celebs are doing...

Maureen said...

It's hard enough walking in some heels but pulling along a size 6 instead of 4 must be annoying.. nothing worse than a floppy shoe

I have noticed this for the longest time and just never got it. Thanks for letting me know I'm not crazy and that YES this is weird and looks oh so awful!

mrpnd said...

I never noticed that before... Now that I do, gawd it looks awkward lol

Anonymous said...

YES i noticed that to - its so weird and so obvious that i always wondered how a stylist, or the celebrity for the matter could allow that.
Although its not as bad a Selena Gomez's chipped toe nail polish that she often has on the red carpet - that is my WORST!!!!!

lizzie said...

I've always noticed this with the loves of my life, you know, the Olsen twins. I figured it was because they have such tiny feet and sample shoes are probably more of an average size (right?). It looks SO uncomfortable!! How do you walk in them??

Anna at ShoeHunting said...

Some of these lovely ladies just need to use those thingies you put on the inside of the shoe, where the ball of your foot hits. They keep your feet from sliding forward. Because many of them have toes hanging off and the gap in the back! It does look awful.

Melanie said...

I have totally noticed it. I generally wear a 7 1/2. I find that with heels, I have to sometimes get a half a size smaller because my foot will naturally slide forward because of the angle of the shoe (not to say that my feet are hanging over the toe of the shoe or anything - gross!). I wonder if this is the same problem that stylists have when fitting their celebs?

House of Milk said...

I don't know why, or how they do it! I can't even walk in a pair of heels that are too big. They have to fit right or I look like Bambi learning how to walk for the first time! Glad someone else noticed this, it always bugs me, too.

Tamra of walkswithBella said...

it doesn't make sense why this happens so often! it's not comfortable, nor is it easy to walk in. They needs to get some insoles to help or something!

J said...

I have been noticing this for years, and it drives me up the wall! I'm pretty sure it's because they're loaners and they get whatever size the designers send them (which are probably average sizes). I figure if you have that kind of money can't you just buy your own shoes instead of taking the free loaners??? If I like a pair of shoes enough to wear them, I don't want to borrow them, I want to own them!!! I don't get celebrities lol

SexyDiosa09 said...

This was a great illustration of the ridiculous things some women do. I think that big shoes are almost as uncomfortable as too small shoes LOL. I wonder why they can't seem to understand that people do notice these things and it makes absolutely no sense. Thanks for pointing it out!

Angela said...

I've noticed this for QUITE some time now!!! Another annoying phenomena is toes hanging over the edge of the shoe. My sister has a Holly Madison pin-up poster in her kitchen (I don't know. It's pointless to ask.) and the first thing I noticed was not only Holly's toes hanging horrifically over the edge of her gold sandals... but her FOOT PADS were showing!!! Now, I realize most people wouldn't be looking at her feet. *wink* BUT, do they not pay attention to the details in a pin-up poster? Come ON!!! I could hardly believe it. Honestly, there are just very few acceptable excuses for ANY of this. Thanks for bringing it to light!!!

Fiamma S. said...

I confirm: it's because they're borrowed. the samples are 37 (uk 4, us 6.5 - i'm not sure about the us correspondance) for the still life pictures, or 40 (uk 7, us 9.5) for the fashion shooting.
Only a few of designers give the right size to the actresses.
And only Loboutin doesn't borrow or give them for free. Even if your an Hollywood star, you have to pay for them...

it does not make any sense... Some of that might have to do with comfort... it is tricky to find heels that look sexy and are comfy.

Brenda said...

I never noticed...Now thats all Im going to be looking for. Another flaw!

Plumbing said...

something interesting. Why they used bigger shoes. For me, maybe they just feel more comfortable wearing bigger shoes.

wellies boots said...

Great share,I haven't notice that maybe because your right with your thoughts that they didn't manage to check it before the event and so they just fit it even too big because there's no enough time to look for a shoe that will match to their outfit.

EB said...

Not sure if someone else has already answered with this but there is a reason you see this: almost all clothes/shoes worn by celebrities on the red carpet are samples borrowed from designers for the evening.

Sample size shoes at most showrooms are from the runway and generally a size 9-10 (model size!). Therefore, celebrities with a size 7 or 8 foot hang out of the shoes lent to them.

Vikki @ She Has Cute Shoes! said...

YES!!!

I've noticed this too and I've always just assumed that they get them for free because they CAN afford them, don't get given the right size ( for free! ) and are too erm, frugal....ok, cheap....to buy their own. ;)

Either that or they truly have no idea of visual discrimination ;)

I know this drives me insane too, there is nothing that I hate more than people wearing shoes that are obviously way too big.

Anonymous said...

I have a theory about this, because it bugs me every time I see it. It's a variant of the "bigger is more comfortable because feet swell" one. I think it's because you have to break your heels in, you can rarely walk in them out of the store. But those celebrities get them with the outfit, whether borrowed or gifted, so they can't break in their own size, they need a bigger one.

Jane said...

Ladies this problem( loose shoes) should be a thing of the past now. I am stunned that the celebrities stylists don't have Sizers and pop a pair into their big shoes to adjust the size so that they can walk properly.
If you havent tried them then you NEED to! They are an amazing new product that was just launched in the UK and they sell worldwide too!
Check them out: www.shoesizers.com

They should get a pair of Sizers and problem solved. I love them!
