This is basically stitch for stitch the same shoe. The buckle is different but I'm sure that's only because Steve Madden didn't want to open up a mold for a new buckle.
I've put this up as the shoe of the week cause I'm interested to see what you guys think (and for some reason you don't like to leave comments, with the exception of 3 or 4 of you)
Honestly, there's a part of me that thinks that designer knock offs are great. It's a way of bringing high style to the masses. (am I repeating myself, I feel like I've said this before?) But then you have to realize that it effs up the whole scheme of things because by definition, high style is such BECAUSE it is elevated from the masses. Make sense?
Snobby? Maybe, but you know I'm right.
What do you think???

Ugh, I hate Steve Madden. I refuse to buy any of his shoes because he blatantly rips off high end designers. I am in college and can't afford the real thing, but it is something to work for. I don't want a knock off, I want the real thing. But then if you get the real thing, you can hardly tell the difference.
Makes sense completely! I'm torn though... I prefer the well made, expensive, name brand any day but I can't say that I haven't hopped on the Steve Madden knock off ride. =I
I think, as most people probably do, that the real 'designers' are just too expensive.
But is it ever right to steal someone else's work? I say no. Inspiration is one thing, and I say that bringing great style to the masses is wonderful (yeah, H&M!). But totally copying someone else's ideas? That's just wrong.
Plain and simple, stealing is wrong. Maybe Steve Madden should get some designers who can be original for once....
Hi there...wanted to finally leave a comment because I have read your blog a few times. Love to hear the perspective of someone who is actually in the shoe industry and I love your little quips!
Like a few others stated, I too hate steve madden. I haven't worn anything of his since middle school. There are tons of shoes that I cannot afford, but I would rather have less pairs then crappy knock offs!
Did Gwen love your ideas?
I agree. I would way rather have the original than the knock off. I'm into designer bags as well...I about died one day when someone asked if I got my "cute purse" at a purse party! Ew! I can only imagine what I would have done if they had a similar comment for my shoes!
Well, people say imitation is the best form of flattery. But I think Steve Madden rips off designers to basically make money. People obviously want to buy the designer shoes, but can't afford the exorbitant prices. So which is worse? Bringing high style to the masses by knocking off designers, or charging an arm and a leg for a frickin pair of shoes that will be out of style in a year anyways and are only in style in the first place because they are stamped with a designer logo? I say screw Alexander McQueen and Steve Madden. There are more important things in life to spend that kind of money on. Don't get me wrong, I do appreciate the beauty of a nice pair of heels, and the art in designing such a thing. But I definitely disagree with the status that labels have attained.
nicely said ;)
nicely said ;)
what if Alexander McQueen & Steve Madden were the same person?! knocking yourself off is the best idea right?
Or maybe Alex & Stevie are just sleeping together...
honestly,
as a designer i would prefer things looking better even if they were designer knock offs. i mean we could never afford Eames furniture in our house, thank god for Room Service in LA!
*as long as we're not funding Jihad or any of that crap.
