Ok, so I'm sure that when you see this Lanvin flat you're not like- OH! I have to have it! It's so different and special! But... I'm here to make an argument for it's case.
I'm not the kinda girl you'll see in a pair of flip flops unless I've just come from getting a pedi. In California, they're worn all year long, all over. Not just to the beach, but to dinner and even bars. I hate them and I think they look sloppy and very "un-shoe girl". Please don't get me wrong, I know many, if not most of you live in your flip flops. I'm just saying that they are not for me. My alternative? The simple black flat. Not just any flat, the softest most comfortable flat I've ever owned.
They are overpriced. I know this. It took me a few months to decide to go for them. I even bought them once and returned them thinking to myself, "I can't spend THAT on a plain ass leather flat!" But finally, I did. How much? Well, $530 from Barney's. Yea, yikes. But I honestly think they were a great buy. I wear them almost every day when I'm running around and I don't want to be in heels. They are super comfy and I love the hidden wedge in the back. It's a little 3/4" height boost ;) I love them so much that I think I'll get a second pair in a sexy nude color.

**ADDITION**
I still love these and wear them often. They look and feel even better after almost 2 years of wear :)

I couldn't agree more. I HATE filp-flops. I don't feel cute wearing them. I only wear them to yoga (cuz I take them off the second I get there) and also when I have just gotten a pedi. I hate them and don't think look good with anything I wear.
I love wearing the ballet flats. I really like the pair you are talking about, but I think my husband would not be happy with that purchase.
wearin' flats instead of flip-flops is like having nice teeth... it just finishes you off in such a more refined way.
BTW i did see major flip-floppage (with denim) when we went out this weekend ~BARF who wears flip flops going out? c'mon girls god gave you legs to hook the boys in... use them!
of course, what was i doing going out?!
I think flats are really cute, but my feet don't like to be confined. Therefore, I wear flip-flops all the time, don't worry, they match my outfits. But wearing flip flops to go out? No no no.
this is why i dont like going out in OC..everyone is in flipflops everywhere!!!...WHY!..i mean i love flipflops but i only wear them when i walk outside to get the mail or water the garden..seriously..i never understood why people wore flipflops to bars..
where i'm from (Canada), pretty much everyone wears flip flops casually as soon as the weather is nice. I'm guilty for wearing flip flops for almost every occasion in the summer, except for dressy events of course.
I envy regions where it's summer weather all year round!! try having 3-4 months of winter weather and then you'll appreciate flip flops LOL!!
While I can't afford to pay that much for shoes right now it's great to hear that they're worth the high price.
After reading your post they're definitley on my "Some Day..." list :)
i love to wear uggs when i want my feet comfy :)
I'm guilty! I wear havaianas to work because i have to walk. Driving a car or riding a bus will double my travel time.
Anyway, I just change into my heels when I'm at work. I've been searching for black flats too. I hope I can find one soon. Anyway, there's no way I can afford your Lanvin but they are lovely :)
Wow! $530 for a pair of leather flatties. Probably more than I'd spend, but without a doubt, I have to absolutely agree - the similar pair I have are so so comfortable. Like slipping your feet into a soft cloud. Perfect for zipping up to the shops, or picking the kids up from school - they look dressy, unlike the flip flops. But the flatties have to be leather. Won't last otherwise.(Shh, just quietly, I do wear flip flops to the beach - hey, I live in Western Australia - we've got some of the most beautiful beaches in the world here. So hopefully I'm forgiven.
I cannot believe the Lavin flats cost SO much...I have a love hate relationship with pretty much every pair of flats I have because for something that seems like it would be comfortable, they're usually not. And you would think that comfortable, plain, black flats would be the easiest thing in the world to find. They're not. Everyday I pray that someone would make a PLAIN, COMFORTABLE, I mean really comfortable(doesn't give you blisters, pinch the tops of your feet etc) flat like the Lanvin flat for..NOT $500. But noooo...it's a sea of patent leather, stupid bows (I don't need a bow on the top of every flat damn it!), pinchy backs, and bullshit.
...I apologize for the rant...but can someone ~in the shoe world~ pleeease make a nice flat that doesn't blow so the broke girls can stop living in the flip-flop-world-of-woe??
hahaha I love ewbetchgtfo comment! Seriously $500 for a flat is hard for me to swallow but I am sure it is worth every penny!

It is good to know what you think about these Lanvins because I always wondered, but now maybe I will take the plunge...finally. So hard to spend a lot of money on ballet flats with so many cute heels around though, right?!
